Summer 2019

Welcome back to the second half of the Summer Term!

Chudleigh Pre-School AGM — Tuesday 11 June 2019

Join us at 7pm for drinks and nibbles with the meeting starting at 7.30pm

Chudleigh Pre—School is a registered charity so we legally have a committee to work closely with the management staff to oversee the running of the Pre-School.

Committee members are a crucial part of the Pre-School. Chudleigh Pre-School has always been run by it’s parents for the benefit of the children in our community.

The AGM is a great chance to come and find out what the committee have been overseeing during the year. This is also a chance to find out what your children have been doing by chatting with their Lead Practitioner.

We are currently seeking new members to come and join our enthusiastic committee supporting this ’Double Outstanding Pre-School’. Please consider whether this might be something you would be able to support the Pre—School with. There is also the position of Treasurer needed this year. If you would like more information please speak to one of the Lead Practitioners or to the Office Manager. Nominations can be taken prior to the AGM or on the evening.

We would also love to hear from you if you don’t want to be on the committee but would be willing to support the fundraising team (baking, event management etc.) Thank you.

Invoices

Please pay any outstanding invoices before the end of term. If you have any concerns over the payment, please do not hesitate to come to the office where we can discuss a payment plan.

Funding

If your child is entitled to 30 hours funding from September, please make sure you have filled in a funding form, complete with your 30 hour entitlement code and National Insurance Number, and returned it to the office as soon as possible.

Codes are needed by end of term (deadline is 31 August — however, please remember that Pre-School is closed during the summer holidays). If you are unsure about whether your child qualifies, you can check your eligibility online.

Thank you Hares Landscapes

We would like to say a huge thank you to Peter and Emma Hares from Hares Landscapes. Over the recent half term, they have created a safety fence and gate within our School Site garden area.

Let’s get exploring!

The Children’s theme for learning through play this half term is Let’s Get Exploring! This l a theme might take us in all directions, often following the children’s lead and interests. It lends us to Exploring across each of the 7 areas of learning!

We will be developing storytelling, so that a story has a beginning, middle and end. At home its great fun making up stories with your children — get them to suggest what might happen next!

We’ll be going on adventures in our role play, creating maps, following directional clues, recording journeys having great fun learning everyday through the carefully planned and spontaneous fun activities on the sessions.

Sponsored Walk

Our annual sponsored walk will be taking place on the Friday 5 July 2019, on the Cricket Field. This is our BIGGEST fundraising event of the year and we would really appreciate your support. Please click here to download the sponsorship form (printed copies are available on request), start getting sponsorships now!

Please come and join us on the day and if you could bring a cake along for the bake sale, we would be very grateful!

Important note: We are afraid that for health and safety reasons, the children who attend the Town Hall on a Friday afternoon will not be able to be transferred to the Cricket Field by our staff. Please let us know, if you would like to collect your child and take them down to the event yourself. If not, we will ensure that the children have their own special sponsored walk and fun at the Town Hall.

Chudleigh Pre-School Polo Shirts

Further to our previous email, just a reminder that the committee has purchased Pre-School Polo Shirts for the children. The shirts are not a uniform and not compulsory to wear but they are a great way for the children to look and feel part of their Pre-School and to hopefully help you to keep their other clothes clean for home wear! The polo shirts are good quality ones, come in different sizes and are £7.50 each, they are on sale on a daily basis within the Pre-School rooms please ask if you would like to purchase one.

Tapestry

We are really enjoying Tapestry at Pre-School and hope that you are too. One of the things we particularly like is that it enables us to create a shared picture of your child, so don’t forget you can ’comment’ on our observations (tell us about similar things that they do at home, for instance) and also add your own observations (of something new or special that you — or they! - would like to celebrate and share with us).

There are times when the photos and observations that we add to your child’s Tapestry journal may contain images or names of other children: may we take this opportunity to remind you that these must not be shared on social media without the express, written permission of those children’s parents/carers.

Save the Date Chudleigh Carnival

On Saturday 20 July, Chudleigh Pre-School is planning to take part in the Chudleigh Carnival.

The new committee will be discussing what our theme is. If you have any great ideas or suggestions for a theme and would like to get involved, please do let us know as soon as possible.

Sun Cream

As the weather gets warmer, please be prepared for the sunshine and remember to apply sun cream before a session. We will apply sun cream at lunch time to those children staying all day, but it is your responsibility to apply sun cream before your child’s session.

Please note, that if you marked on your original registration form that you would like to provide your child’s own sunscreen, can you alert us to whether you have a named cream in their bag or will be sending one in for their session.

Please check that your child has a named sun hat to bring into Pre-School. We ask that children wear sensible footwear, no flip flops please, the children are outside running around, playing, on the go; they need to be able to do this freely and safely.

Thank you.

Talking to our children!

The staff recently undertook some training with a speech therapist and one of the top tips that she suggested to extend children’s vocabulary is to remember to teach all of the different types of words.

So, teach nouns (the naming words, like tricycle), adjectives (the describing words, like smooth and shiny) and don’t forget the verbs (the doing words, like scrambling and shuffling).

Have fun thinking of new words to extend your children’s learning!

Spring 2019

Welcome back to the second half of the Spring Term. There are lots of special events happening this term that we hope you will support and take part in!

World Book Day

On Thursday 7th March it is World Book Day. As part of this special day of celebrating ‘books and stories’ we invite the children to bring in their favourite books and stories from home to share with one another and for them to come dressed as a character from a story. Watch out for the staff hopefully dressed up too! All children will be given a voucher towards a book of their choice on Book Day or during a session this week.

There is a nice little book called Ten Little Book Worms that you can claim with the voucher from local supermarkets and book stores.

Invoices

Please pay any outstanding invoices before the end of term. If you have any concerns over the payment, please do not hesitate to come to the office where we can discuss a payment plan.

Reminder

Please can we remind you that our morning session runs between 9.15am and 12.15pm and our afternoon session runs between 12.15pm and 3.15pm. It is only in very special circumstances that we can take your child outside of their booked hours and would need to be pre-arranged with staff.

Bandana Week

During the week of 18th March, we will have a special ‘Bandana Week’ in support of the Brain Tumour Charity. This is a charity we support each year, that is close to our hearts and we hope you will all support us in trying to raise as much money as possible for this crucial charity. This year we have decided to create a whole ‘Bandana Week’ (or Pirate Week as we often call it at Pre-School!), so that all children are able to take part if they wish. Children will be encouraged to come to Pre-School dressed as a pirate and wearing a ‘bandana’. We ask that you might consider sending in a donation at some point during the week, if your child comes dressed up. During the week, children from each family will receive a Head Smart card outlining the symptoms and giving more information about early diagnosis. Please can we thank you in advance for your support of this charity.

Funding

If your child turns 3 between 1st January and 31st March, we will need you to complete a Parent Declaration form allowing us to claim funding from Devon County. This is particularly important if your child is entitled to 30 hours funding from April 2019 – please make sure you have filled in a funding form, complete with your 30 hour entitlement code and National Insurance Number, and returned it to the office as soon as possible. Codes are needed by end of term (deadline is 31st March – however, codes need to be validated before this time, so please return your funding form by 22nd March). If you are unsure about whether your child qualifies, you can check your eligibility online.

Save the Date – Easter Open Afternoon

On Friday 5th April we will be holding our annual Easter open afternoon at the Town Hall 1.45pm – 3pm. It will be a fun afternoon of Easter egg hunts, refreshments and Easter craft activities. This is open to all under five children in our community, not just those that attend our Pre-School. More information to follow!

Pre-School Committee

If you are interested in joining the Committee, getting more involved in the running of our Pre-School or fundraising, do email admin@chudleighpreschool.org.uk and we can give you more information about how to join us!

Autumn 2018 Newsletter 2

At the moment we are embracing Autumn in its full colours. We are exploring and learning about different festivals, including Bonfire Night and Diwali, and this week remembering soldiers through the making of simple poppies. After that we will be preparing for Advent, the Nativity story and then all the sparkle and glitter of Christmas craft activities!

Children in need

Children in Need is taking place on Friday 16th November this year. If your child attends Pre-School on Fridays, they are welcome to come to Pre-School in fancy dress (or they can pick one of our outfits to wear for the day, if they would like). We will be collecting donations, if you would like to support this charity.

Chudleigh Pre-School Nativity & Christmas Jumper Day

On Friday 14th December, we are holding our very first Nativity play at the Church at 2:15pm - 3:00pm and everyone is invited! This will be an informal event where we’ll be telling the Christmas Story and singing simple Christmas Carols with the Children as the story unfolds. Please save the date and more information will shortly follow.

Also, on that Friday, it is Christmas Jumper Day, so perhaps you and your child would like to show off your Christmas Jumpers! There will be a Save the Children fund donation box, which is the charity that Christmas Jumper Day supports.

If your child regularly attends on a Friday afternoon session, please rest assured that your child will be taken to the church for the Nativity and the Christmas party (see below for details), if you are unable to attend these events.

Church wall

You might have noticed already that the major repair work is taking place on the Church wall running parallel with the car park. We have been informed that this work will take at least a month to complete. For any parents using this route to Pre-School, please take extra care in this area.

Invoices

The invoices for this half-term have now been handed out and are due for payment by 3rd December 2018.

If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to come to the office, where we can discuss a payment plan.

Extra sessions

If you would like to increase your child’s sessions at the Town Hall after Christmas, please return the Request for changes to sessions form to the office before 30th November. Note that there is limited availability on some sessions.

Late night shopping / Chudfest Christmas Lights

Chudleigh Pre-School will have a table at the Chudfest Christmas event on Thursday 6th December.

Can you help man the stall and sell raffle tickets?

Christmas Party

The Christmas Party will be on Friday 21st December, 1:30pm - 3:00pm in the Large Room (upstairs) at the Town Hall. Your children are welcome to arrive from 1:30 for refreshments, with entertainment starting at 2:00pm.

This is a ticket only event and tickets will be on sale from Monday 10th December at a price of £3.50 each.

If siblings are attending, and would like a present, they will need a ticket of their own.

Applications for Primary School

For children born between 1/9/14 and 31/8/15, the Devon Schools online application facility opens on 15th November 2018 and closes on 15th January 2019. Please note, Devon County will only accept applications between these dates and no applications are considered until after the closing date. You can apply online at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline. It is essential you apply, or your child may miss out on your first choice. If you are unable to access the admissions website, you can call the Education Helpline on 0345 155 1019 or email admissions@devon.gov.uk

Photographs

If you had your child/children photographed with Tempest on Friday 19th October and would like to order through us rather than online, please make sure your green order envelope is in by Friday 9th November.

Funding

Please remember to complete and return you Parent Declaration Form, along with a form of ID for your child before the end of this half-term if you child is going to become eligible for funding from January 2019.

Remember, we need 30 hour codes before the end of term in order to validate them for January.

Head to the Childcare Choices website to find out if you’re eligible.

Christmas raffle

Once again, we are running a raffle in order to raise funds for the Pre-School. We have some fantastic prizes including: River Dart Country Park tickets, South Devon Railway tickets, Escot tickets, a Home Farm Cafe cream tea voucher and many more…

If you would like to buy some raffle tickets, we will be sending some home with your children soon and they will also be available at the late-night shopping evening in Chudleigh on 6th December. The draw will take place during the Pre-School Christmas party on 21st December.

Reminder from Chudleigh PRimary School

Chudleigh Primary School are holding ‘Open Afternoons’ on Wednesday 14th November and Thursday 22nd November 2:00pm - 3:30pm, for the parents of children starting school next September. This will be an opportunity for parents to look around the school and meet the staff.

Buggies and prams at the school site

This is a gentle reminder from Chudleigh Primary School that the Pre-School cloakroom area is a major fire exit and, therefore, should remain clear of obstacles at all times. This includes buggies and prams. We appreciate that this is difficult, but we need to follow the School’s fire procedures in order to keep all children and staff safe.

We therefore must ask that you leave buggies and prams outside. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Exciting news!

We are really excited that we have been accepted as one of Chudleigh Co-op’s Local Community Fund projects. If you are a member of the Co-Op, please select us as you local cause! Simply go to https://membership.coop.co.uk/dashboard

Previously, the Local Community Fund has generously built our fantastic mud kitchen at the Town Hall site.

Our next big project is to build a wonderful sand pit area at the Town Hall site. Money raised will go a long way to help us reach our goal.

Pre-school committee

Autumn 2018

As we near the end of the first half of the Autumn Term, we would like to say how lovely it has been to spend time again with our familiar faces as well as getting to know the new members of our Chudleigh Pre-School family.

We have started the term with the theme, ‘All about Me’ celebrating all the special skills that your children can do now that they are 2, 3 and 4 years old. One of the ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ (you will see reference to this on Tapestry), is children developing an ‘I Can…’ disposition, developing a ‘good feeling’ about themselves and how clever they are, being willing to ‘have a go’ and try out and practise new skills. We have looked at ‘growing up’. A huge thank you to those parents who came in with children’s younger siblings to help us all see and learn about our growing and development. We have also been looking at some of the different large, gross motor skills our clever bodies can do, like twisting, twirling, jumping, leaping, balancing, hopping - have fun practising these skills with your children at home!

The week we are considering ‘Clever Fingers’; playing with clothes pegs is a great way to help develop a fine motor, pincer grip. We would love it if any parent/carers would like to come in and share any special activities that you like doing in your families, for example cooking, gardening, playing an instrument, singing, a special tradition; please contact one of the Lead Practitioners if you would like to join in and share your activity with us. Remember there is also the regular parents’ rota to sign up if you would like to just come in and help and play on a session, you can always discuss it with your child’s key person.

A reminder about clothing and naming items

There are always messy play resources out on each session which are crucial to young children’s sensory development. Whilst we do provide aprons for the children to wear, we would ask that you send your child in suitable clothing that doesn’t matter if it gets a bit messy.

We want to use the outdoor areas available to us as much as possible, whatever the weather. It is really helpful if your child has suitable clothing and footwear for this, such as coats, hats gloves (although we do provide wellies!)

It is always helpful if items they bring to Pre-School are named, be they bags, coats, hats, gloves, jumpers, lunch boxes or a favourite toy! If you would like some labels we would love you to use www.easy2name.com as if you quote ‘Chudleigh Pre-school’ we get a small commission which goes to help our fundraising.

Funding

If your child is turning 3 this term, please remember to fill in a Parent Declaration form and bring in a form of ID (such as their Birth certificate) so that we can start claiming your child’s entitlement from January. If you think your child is entitled to 30 hours funding, please make sure you have applied for it and returned your funding form, complete with your 30 hour entitlement code and National Insurance Number as soon as possible. Codes are needed by the end of term (deadline is 31st December - however, please remember that Pre-School is closed during the Christmas holidays). If you are unsure about whether your child qualifies, you can check your eligibility online using the Childcare Choices website.

Christmas Party-Save the date!

This year’s Christmas Party will be on the afternoon of Friday 21st December. Further details to follow

Chudleigh Primary School are holding ‘Open Afternoons’ on Wednesday 14th November and Thursday 22nd November, 2.00pm-3.30pm, for parents of children starting school NEXT september. This will be an opportunity for parents to look around the school and meet the staff.

Photos-Friday 19th October from 9.30am

On Friday 19th October, in the Woodway Room in the Town Hall from 9.30am until approximately 11.00am, we have a photographer coming to take portraits of the children. These will make great Christmas presents and mementos for you and the Pre-School gets a small commission from any pictures sold. We are using Tempest Photography. This session is open to all families from Pre-School and any friends you may know who have young children and would like their pictures taken - just drop in during the morning. If your children attend either site on the Friday morning, then you would be welcome to bring them along for a photo and then take them back to Pre-School.

Wrap Around Childcare

As a Pre-School, our opening times are 9.15am-3.15pm during term time, in line with Chudleigh Primary School. We appreciate that these times and dates don’t always meet all parent/carers commitments. As a result of this, we are now working in close partnership with Child Minders, Daisy Chain and FISH (Fun In the School Holidays) to try to help provide Wrap Around Care for your child through the Chudleigh Pre-School; please let us know if we can help you with this.
